As we all know, the CSIR NET June 2025 exam is approaching. The exam dates are 26th, 27th, and 28th of July. That means we have 45 days in hand from today.
In this blog we will cover, how to use these 45 days effectively and prepare for the CSIR exam
The Four Pillars of Preparation
As you might have guessed from the title, there are four important pillars that you must focus on starting today to ensure that the last 10 days before the exam aren't stressful.
These four pillars are essential to your success.
Pillar 1: Revision Strategy
The first and most important pillar is revision.
Everyone has a different level of preparation—some have completed the syllabus, some have given the exam before, and some are just starting. Based on your situation, you should tailor your revision strategy.
Start by listing the subjects you've already completed and prioritize them. Subjects like:
• Linear Algebra
• Complex Analysis
• Real Analysis
• Abstract Algebra
• ODE, PDE
• Calculus of Variations (COV)
• Integral Equations
These topics carry high weightage in the Pure Math section. However, not every student can master all topics. So, focus on important yet manageable topics that can fetch you the most marks.
For example:
• Linear Algebra contributes 60–65 marks. It includes easy, moderate, and difficult questions. Focus on easy and moderate ones.
• Do not attempt all topics from Real Analysis. Prepare about 40 marks worth of topics.
• In Abstract Algebra, if you're not confident about Rings and Ideals, leave them. Just prepare Groups thoroughly.
• Prepare a few questions from COV, Integral Equations, ODE, and PDE. You can do around 85% of PDE and 70% of ODE.
Create a plan: list how much you’ll revise and how many questions you aim to attempt from each topic in the next 45 days.
Prioritize Your Topics
Since Linear Algebra has the highest weightage, start with that.
Break it down topic-wise:
• Eigenvalues
• Diagonalizability
• System of Equations
• Linear Transformation
• Matrix Form of Linear Transformations
• Vector Spaces
• Basis and Dimensions
Practice topic-wise questions first. Then move to the next pillar.
Pillar 2: PYQ Practice
Once you've completed topic-wise revision, move to PYQs (Previous Year Questions).
Revise PYQs from the following:
• June & December 2024
• 2023
• 2022
• 2021
Don’t just solve—memorize and analyze these questions. If you struggle with any, look up the solutions.
At DIPS Academy, we conduct live classes and 20–30 PYQs per topic from 2017 to 2024. You can join the CSIR NET live classes and our youtube channel for additional practice.
Make sure to revise subject-wise PYQs. For example:
• Take the December 2024 and Feb 28 paper.
• Solve all Linear Algebra questions.
• Identify which questions you can and can’t solve.
• Revisit the difficult ones and track your progress.
Follow the same strategy for Complex, Real, and Abstract Algebra.
Pillar 3: Questions to Attempt in the Exam
You must decide how many questions you'll attempt in the final exam.
There are 120 total questions in the CSIR NET for Maths.
To qualify with good marks, you should attempt at least 35–40 questions. I recommend aiming for 40, so that even if 2–3 guesses go wrong, you still safely answer around 36–37 questions correctly.
Plan your attempts across:
• Part A
• Part B
• Part C
This means you will leave around 80 questions, which is absolutely fine. The key is smart selection and accuracy.
By regularly practicing PYQs, you’ll learn to:
• Recognize question patterns
• Understand difficulty levels
• Manage time and reading strategy
So, dedicate at least 1–2 hours daily to PYQ practice.
Pillar 4: Practice More Questions
To increase your confidence, practice as many questions as you can.
Apart from PYQs:
• Practice GATE-level questions in Linear, Complex, ODE, PDE, and Functions of Several Variables.
• Try IIT JAM recent year questions from 2023, 2024, and 2025 (if available).
These will help improve your question-solving ability and expose you to more question types.
If you’re enrolled in a DIPS Academy test series, that’s great—you already have a good question bank. If not, use these free resources.
